Leiden

Today you will see the university city of Leiden . Leiden is known for its old university (1567), its Botanic Garden and its Cloth Hall (1638-40).

Alms Houses

A walking tour combines the charming Alms houses and other highlights of Leiden with the history of the famous painter Rembrandt, who was born in the city 400 years ago. You will get an exclusive preview of the upcoming Rembandt Exposition by visiting the Lakenhal/Scheltema Complex, we will do the Rembrandt Tour and take a look in the Latin School , where its most celebrated pupil was Rembrandt.

After the lunch we will visit a 17 th century canal house in classical style with a complete 17 th century private library, named Bibliotheca Thysiana. Born a son of a rich merchant, Johannes Thysius (1622-1653) collected 2500 books, all on fields of science. Under the will of Thysius, the library was founded in 1653.
